Claude Aimée Villeneuve: Defunctos Ploro, 2008

Claude Aimée Villeneuve (Montreal, Canada): Defunctos Ploro, 2008

Defunctos Ploro (I am mourning the dead). On the Day of the Dead, November 2nd, people go to the cemetery and leave bouquets of chrysanthemums, the last flowers of the fall, at the foot of the gravestones of their dearly departed. The last splash of color contrasting with the leafless trees, cloudy skies and gray monuments. A whisper, a cry, a longing that says, I miss you, I remember you, I cry for you...

Claude Aimée Villeneuve (b. Canada) graduated from Concordia University (Montreal) with a BFA (1991). She took lithography courses at the Saydie Bronfman School of Fine Arts (1992-93). Claude then joined Evelyn Dufour’s printmaking studio where she perfected her lino & woodcuts and experimented with collagraphs & monoprints. In 2002 she took a workshop in Japanese woodcut techniques with printmaker Graham Scholes. Claude is a member of the Association of Visual Artists of Quebec (RAAV), and an honorary member of Expressions Graphics in Oak Park, IL. She has contributed to many international printmaking portfolios and hand papermaking exchanges. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the US, and overseas. Claude gives demos and workshops in printmaking and hand papermaking to adults and children.
